New Electric Motor for Hyperloop Technology?

An Australian company called HyperPower Technologies is specialising in advanced propulsion systems. It is also collaborating with Top EV Racing which provides them with Ultra-High-Power electric driveline componentry for research and development. The team from HyperPower Technologies has recently developed an electric motor generating 1,340 horsepower.

Its diameter measures around 17 inches (roughly 43 centimetres) but it is designed in a way that can be scalable. The code name of this electric motor is QFM-360-X and its performance has been tested in a Top Fuel-style dragster powered by four of the motors for a combined output of 5,360 hp. Thanks to those trials it has been shown that the motor can achieve 0-124 mph time of 0.8 seconds, a 0-330 mph time of 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 380 mph.

These motors could be introduced to the hyperloop system but it is not the only area that could benefit from having them. They could also be used in aerospace applications, hypercars, mining and high-speed rail.

HyperPower Technologies has been established as a way to commercialize some of the technologies that Top EV Racing founder Michael Fragomeni had been working on for past years. He has developed many high-tech parts that were not present on the market at the time.

“This motor is the culmination of my career’s effort and a notable milestone for our team to now have the (motor) in production, with volume assembly running in parallel,” said Fragomeni.
