Jay Walder is the CEO of Virgin Hyperloop One (VHO), the transportation technology company based in Los Angeles. Its main goal is to build and commercialise the hyperloop system. Before joining Virgin team Walder was already involved in a fair number of transit projects. First he was the managing director for finance and planning at Transport for London, where he has been credited with accomplishments such as the introduction of the Oyster card, and a successful bid for the Summer Olympics in 2012. Then, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of the in New York, which is the biggest transit agency in the U.S. Later he took over the role of CEO of MTR Corporation (MTRC) in Hong Kong, recognised as one of the best performing rail operators in the world. Afterwards, before joining VHO team, Walder became CEO of Motivate – the bike-share operator in North America.
Some time ago Jay Walder was invited to give a speech at one of the independently organised TED conferences – TEDxGateway. During his talk he breaks down the most basic problems presently occurring in the transportation sector all around the globe. He explains why he gravitated towards hyperloop and mentions expectations and promises surrounding this emerging technology. He also targets India as a great place to begin the change in the way people commute every day. He also mentions what he believes will be the future inherited by the next generations.
