Delft Hyperloop presented a new capsule design – Atlas 02February 19, 2019
On February 13th, 2019 Delft Hyperloop presented their new Design, Atlas 02, which will race in the 2019 SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition. The team wants to be the fastest in the competition and beat the speed record by reaching a top speed of more than 500 km/h within a 1 km long track (WARR Hyperloop Team from Munich is holding the current record of 467km/h).
“The pod has been designed in that way to locate all the components compactly that makes it extremely light and, therefore, better for acceleration and slowing down. The pod has a power similar to a tank but weighs less than a motorbike. In this way, the high speed can be achieved,” said Elja Ebbensthe – team’s chief engineer.
Besides the competition, Delft Hyperloop will research the feasibility of the Hyperloop system within society in the future. Therefore, the team will try to answer the questions about safety, economic potential and the technology needed to build and implement the Hyperloop system.
The team also shared an attractive render of the Atlas 02’s interior.
